Job Summary

As a Software Engineer III at OpenGov, you'll build best-in-class SaaS solutions that enable efficiency, transparency, and accountability within government agencies. You'll be a key member of our engineering team, leading complex projects in a fast-paced, agile environment using modern technologies, including ReactJS, Javascript, GraphQL, and NodeJS.

A typical day in this role would provide multiple opportunities to lead and design well scoped services, implement and optimize complex applications for speed and scalability, and resolve various unique technical challenges. The role provides you the ability to become subject matter expert in one or more technical areas. Strong collaboration skills with the product, UX, and platform engineers, ability to navigate ambiguity and execute quickly will enable your success.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own high-quality, scalable, secure, and maintainable frontend features using React and modern JavaScript frameworks.
• Partner closely with Product, Design, and Backend teams to translate business and user needs into intuitive, performant user interfaces.
• Develop reusable, accessible, and well-tested UI components that adhere to design systems and frontend best practices.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented frontend code with a strong emphasis on performance, usability, and maintainability.
• Diagnose and resolve complex frontend issues across browsers, devices, and environments.
• Continuously improve frontend development workflows, tooling, performance, and operational excellence.
• Lead and participate in code reviews, ensuring high standards for code quality, scalability, and consistency.
• Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering technical growth and a culture of continuous learning.
• Stay up to date with modern frontend technologies, frameworks, and industry trends, and advocate for their adoption when beneficial.
• Actively contribute to OpenGov’s engineering culture by promoting innovation, quality, and modern frontend engineering practices.
  
  

• BA/BS in a computer-science-related discipline or equivalent experience required
• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a strong focus on frontend engineering.
• Expert-level proficiency in JavaScript and ReactJS, including modern React patterns, hooks, state management, and component-driven development.
• Strong experience with frontend ecosystems and tooling such as Node.js, npm/yarn/pnpm, Webpack, Vite, Babel, and ESLint.
• Solid understanding of HTML, CSS, responsive design, and web accessibility (WCAG) standards.
• Strong grasp of data structures, algorithms, and performance optimization in frontend applications.
• Familiarity with observability concepts such as frontend logging, monitoring, and performance metrics.
• Experience working with event-driven systems and asynchronous data flows is a plus.
• Strong understanding of SDLC methodologies and agile development practices.
• Experience building large-scale, enterprise, or ERP-style web applications is preferred.
