GCP Data Architect

A GCP Data Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing scalable, robust, and secure data solutions on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to translate business and technical requirements into effective data architectures, ensuring data integrity, security, and optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and design end-to-end data solutions on GCP, focusing on data warehousing, big data platforms, and analytics use cases
• Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support business requirements
• Implement data security frameworks and enterprise data architecture best practices to ensure data integrity and confidentiality.
• Establish and enforce data governance policies, including data quality, compliance, and metadata management.
• Build and optimize data pipelines for efficient data ingestion, transformation, and loading using GCP services such as BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, DataProc, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer, and Cloud Run.
• Design and implement solutions for both batch and real-time data processing, leveraging technologies like Spark, Hadoop, and GCP-native tools.
• Collaborate with clients, business analysts, developers, and architecture teams to gather requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions.
• Prepare high-level and detailed data architecture and design documentation.
• Manage metadata and documentation using tools such as Erwin and data cataloging techniques.
• Stay updated on advancements in GCP services, data architecture trends, and related technologies.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to technical teams, ensuring best practices in data architecture and GCP usage.
  
  

Required Skills And Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 6 years of experience in a Data Architect role, with at least 2 years working on cloud data platforms (GCP preferred).
• Deep expertise in GCP data services: BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, DataProc, Cloud Storage, Cloud Composer, Cloud Run.
• Strong proficiency in data modeling (conceptual, logical, physical), data warehousing, and big data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Spark, Hadoop, and data pipeline orchestration tools.
• Solid understanding of data management, governance, and security frameworks.
• Proficiency in SQL, Python, and DBT (Data Build Tool) for data exploration and transformation.
• Experience with metadata management and documentation tools such as Erwin.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• GCP Professional Data Engineer or Cloud Architect certification is highly desirable.
  
  

Preferred/Additional Qualifications

• Experience with data virtualization (e.g., Starburst), data mesh, and data fabric architectures.
• Familiarity with Teradata, IBM Cloud Pak, and other enterprise data platforms.
• Experience designing cloud architectures on other platforms (e.g., Oracle Cloud) is a plus.
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
