Senior Software Engineer, SDN, Control Plane

Overview

Google Cloud's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google Cloud's needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. You will anticipate our customer needs and be empowered to act like an owner, take action and innovate. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

The Orion Core team owns the framework and key components in Google's SDN network infrastructure. This means we define how developers build networking products in Google, for instance high bandwidth interconnects in our data centers or WAN connectivity. We are a software team and Orion in a large distributed system that has to be highly available and high performance. Orion is deployed across the globe with over thousands of application instances running right now.

Our team's code is mainly written in C++, running on low dependency borg, using infrastructure like Chubby, Stubby and Spanner. We also maintain infrastructure and tooling in Borg using a wide variety of google3 infrastructure and services.
