The pandemic has highlighted how important telecoms networks are to society. Nokia’s Network Infrastructure group is at the heart of a revolution to bring more and faster network capacity to people worldwide through our ambition, innovation, and technical expertise. Within the Network Infrastructure group, the Broadband Networks division focuses on fixed network access products and their management system: a network controller named Altiplano.
As a Technical Project Manager, you will plan, track and coordinate the software architecture, development and test activities of various, geographically spread teams that will result in the delivery of end-to-end R&D Altiplano software releases. These software projects include use and integration of a significant amount of open-source software. Both Nokia employees and subcontractors are involved. You will be working in a state-of-the-art technical environment, on software that is at the forefront of network management and automation. Our customers are expecting high quality software with a lot of content and challenging timelines, and are putting very strict requirements with respect to security, standards, etc.
Although you will not have any direct people management responsibility, you will need the personal skills to cooperate with a lot of people and coordinate their efforts into a flawless execution of the project, adhering to the processes that are in place.
How You Will Contribute And What You Will Learn
- Is responsible for project execution performance with respect to the following KPIs: content, timelines, human resource capacity and quality
- Interfaces with key stakeholders, such as: Product Management, technical Area Leads and Implementation Authorities, Project Management Lead and Delivery Unit Management
- Ensures that project execution follows the applicable guidelines and processes.
- Ensures proper communication with relevant stakeholders for technical requests, emergency cases, outages and project delivery issues.
- Monitors, reports and optimizes project execution in alignment with relevant processes and tools providing sufficient operational visibility to stakeholders. Reports weekly to management about the project schedule, progress, roadblocks and risks.
- Supports end to end delivery management of all products/components involved in an Altiplano core software release
- Is responsible for communication, scheduling, resource management, change management, risk mitigation, escalations, and all other areas of integration and deployment of a technical delivery.
- Clearly identifies the internal customers’ expectations and is able to negotiate swift and smart outcomes with the product and module owners.
- Builds, leads and facilitates teams to address quality issues. Drives customer issues to resolution by initiating the right actions, coordinating, tracking, reporting, and escalating if necessary.
- Facilitates development and deployment of corrective actions to address identified issues.
- Communicates solutions, identifies solution components and owner action item commitments, and sets resolution timelines.
- Identifies roadblocks to customer satisfaction and quality. Reports roadblocks to Management and the team members.
- Validates the workload involved and expertise needed related to the tasks in the project.
- Identifies, proposes and implements improvement opportunities to increase efficiency or effectiveness of existing processes
Must Have Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering or equivalent related experience in a technical field.
- In-depth knowledge of network architecture, products, tools, and processes.
- Five or more years of demonstrated experience in hands-on Network Design, Integration/Deployment, SW Maintenance, Test / Development Management, Software Project Management
- Knowledgeable on Virtualization, SDN & NFV concepts and related technologies.
- Knowledgeable on E2E Telecom Network, Broadband Technologies (Copper and/or Fiber), Network Domain Controllers, Network Management System concepts
- Knowledgeable on Network Management Systems, networking concepts and related technologies.
- Hands-on experience including design, build, deploy, troubleshooting
- Nokia ISAM/FNMS, SDAN Lightspan / Altiplano awareness are a plus
